Sculpture and Drawing

piano music series

Piano Music Series, 2000 - 2005

Above, No. 19. Photos by Bob Kirchstein.

The sculptures begin as drawings made whilst listening to music.

The aim is simply to allow the hand to move with and during the actual time of the music.  Whilst these pieces do not attempt to describe the music, they follow an exploration of its influence.

The drawings become sculptures through an exact process of measurement, beginning by forging a length of steel, changing its thickness and shape.  Finally this length is bent using the torch.

The pieces in this series were made using a combination of forged steel or stainless steel with stone or plaster.
